About This Quote

You, Jane, I must have you for my own--entirely my own. This quote by Robert Browning is a promise to a female character. She has been in his life since he was a child and he has loved her for a long time. He wants to marry her but she doesn't want to.

Despite this, he tries to convince her to marry him so they can have a life together. After they finally do get married, they have many problems in their relationship that eventually cause them to separate. In this quote, he promises that he will always love her and that whenever she needs him, he will be there for her.

He will not desert her when things get tough, he will stay by her side even when they are not harmonious.
